Zimbabwe Queensland Community Council Inc (ZQCC) is a registered and legally incorporated entity with ABN 16 325 191 957. The association is an umbrella body that represents individual members, various associations, clubs, community partners or organisations comprising Zimbabweans residing in Queensland, Australia. ZQCC seeks to unite the diverse Zimbabwean community, facilitate connections and collaboration among the different individuals or groups, and advocate for collective initiatives to support and improve our lives as one people, one community.
Our story began at the beginning of 2023 when a couple of volunteers from the Zimbabwean community felt the need to start a formal and functional community association for Zimbabweans in QLD. The need was to connect our people as this was lacking within the community. The individuals began having meetings and agreed to start by organising a community gathering to celebrate Zimbabwe's Independence which falls on the 18th of April of each year. The Independence Day celebration event in April 2023 was a huge success and well received and the community asked for more community connection engagements/events.
An interim committee was appointed in June 2023 and tasked to set up the association structures including registration, stakeholder mapping and engagement, planning an AGM etc. In September 2023, ZQCC was incorporated as a legal entity. Another successful community gathering event - the Zim QLD Spring Festival was hosted in October 2023.
The first ZQCC AGM was then held in January 2024, and an official executive committee was elected and sworn in.
The association is a non-political community project.
